Berlin's Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin has once again landed in the global top tier of hospital rankings. According to a press release from Charité, the institution secured 8th place worldwide, 2nd in Europe, and 1st in Germany in the latest Newsweek "World's Best Hospitals" ranking, published together with data platform Statista.

The ranking evaluated more than 2,500 hospitals across the globe, based on physician recommendations, patient satisfaction surveys, and measurable clinical performance indicators including hygiene standards. Votes for one's own institution are not permitted, making the results a credible, independent benchmark.

Charité CEO Prof. Heyo K. Kroemer called the result a team achievement: "Excellence in medicine only emerges where competence, innovation, and empathy come together." He also stressed that sustained investment in the institution remains essential to maintaining these results.

The numbers behind Charité are impressive. Each year, the hospital treats more than 143,700 inpatient and partial inpatient cases alongside around 822,500 outpatient visits. Its workforce includes over 5,700 physicians and researchers and more than 6,800 nursing staff.

Beyond the general ranking, Charité also placed in the top 10 of the "World's Best Specialized Hospitals 2026" in areas including neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, cardiac surgery, endocrinology, and orthopedics. Strong results were also recorded in oncology, gastroenterology, and pediatrics.

For Berlin as a business and innovation hub, having a globally recognized medical institution of this caliber is a clear asset.
