Berlin-based fintech Integral is expanding its reach in the small and medium-sized business sector. According to the company's press release, Integral has acquired cleverlohn, a leading digital payroll and HR solutions provider in Germany, and secured additional growth capital to accelerate its mission of becoming Europe's top AI-driven technology and service group for accounting, taxes, and payroll.
The acquisition brings together Integral's AI capabilities with cleverlohn's payroll expertise, creating a unified solution for SMEs struggling with rising compliance costs, outdated technology, and critical skills shortages. cleverlohn, founded by Darleen Warda and Ole Wohltmann, has built a strong reputation for helping businesses streamline processes while navigating complex German labor and tax regulations.
"This acquisition is a major step forward in our mission to redefine accounting, payroll, and taxes for SMEs using AI," says Lukas Zörner, co-founder and CEO of Integral. The company plans to integrate its proprietary AI solutions into cleverlohn's offerings while maintaining cleverlohn as an independent brand and company.
Darleen Warda, co-founder and managing director of cleverlohn, emphasizes the potential of the partnership. "By leveraging AI and further developing the product, we can better support our teams and invest specifically in excellent service," she explains.
The move comes alongside a funding round led by General Catalyst, Cherry Ventures, and Puzzle Ventures, bringing Integral's total financing to 12 million euros. The capital will fuel product development in close collaboration with customers and support team expansion across Germany.
For Berlin's tech ecosystem, the acquisition underscores the city's growing position as a hub for AI-driven business solutions targeting the critical SME market across Europe.
