Berlin-based tech startup Freshflow has raised €6.5 million in new funding to expand deployment of its AI platform specifically designed for grocery retailers' fresh departments. According to information from the company's press release, the investment round was led by World Fund, Capnamic, Venture Stars, Caesar Ventures, and Catatumbo Capital, all doubling down on their previous investments in the company.
The funding follows rapid growth in Freshflow's retail customer base and positive feedback from leading French and German grocers. Fresh produce departments using the AI for daily ordering have experienced impressive results: 2-5% sales uplift alongside a 20%+ decrease in food waste.
Bastien Gelin, CEO of Groupe Yabe, one of the largest Carrefour franchisers in France, endorsed the platform: "We have been working with Freshflow's AI for 9 months. Thanks to the application and Freshflow's team, we have radically improved our process in the fresh produce departments."
The AI solution addresses challenges unique to fresh departments—where loose produce, short shelf lives, unreliable inventories, and messy data typically force managers to rely on intuition rather than data. Freshflow's technology includes produce-specific AI that processes complex data, probabilistic forecasting that balances multiple factors including weather and promotions, and a user-friendly co-pilot app.
With the new capital, Freshflow plans to accelerate product development and expand its team from the current 30 members to approximately 50 by year-end. The company aims to reduce food waste across the entire fresh food supply chain and enhance its offering with better order recommendations and support for new product categories.
