Mirantis Health Gets €5.5M to Expand Eye Screening

Berlin-based HealthTech startup Mirantis Health has secured €5.5 million in seed funding to expand its innovative eye health platform "mira" across German-speaking markets, according to Startbase. The company is tackling a growing crisis in eye care: around 30% of ophthalmologists in Germany are over 60 and nearing retirement, while demand for appointments continues to surge.

So what exactly does Mirantis Health do? The platform transforms optical shops into preliminary screening hubs. Here's how it works: when you visit a participating optician, they can perform comprehensive eye examinations including retinal imaging, intraocular pressure measurements, slit lamp photography, refraction data analysis, and visual acuity tests. All this data is then digitally transmitted to ophthalmologists who review the results and provide detailed evaluation reports within 24 to 48 hours.

The reports don't replace a medical diagnosis but serve as an early warning system, flagging potential issues that require professional medical attention. If abnormalities are detected, patients can quickly access care through Mirantis Health's network of over 400 partner ophthalmologists, significantly reducing wait times and easing the burden on existing practices.

The seed round attracted notable investors including Berlin-based VCs Revent and Redstone, UK's Entrepreneur First, Dutch impact investor Noaber, Arve Capital, and telemedicine pioneers Kai Eberhardt from Oviva and Katharina Jünger from TeleClinic. The fresh capital will fuel the DACH-wide rollout and further platform development.

Currently operating in over 200 locations across Germany, Mirantis Health aims to expand to more than 1,000 locations throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland by 2027. The platform addresses a critical gap in healthcare infrastructure, offering a low-barrier solution that complements traditional routes through statutory health insurance associations while helping detect eye conditions earlier and reducing long-term healthcare costs.
