Berlin database startup SereneDB has secured $2.1 million in pre-seed funding from Entourage and High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF). According to the company's press release, the investment will fuel development of their open-source real-time search and analytics database designed for modern AI applications.

The team behind SereneDB previously created what they describe as the world's fastest enterprise-grade C++ search library. Now they're tackling a fundamental problem in data infrastructure: most existing search and analytics tools weren't built for today's fast-moving data environments.

Here's the challenge SereneDB is addressing. Traditional systems excel at finding static items but struggle when data constantly changes. They have trouble with real-time updates and deletions, forcing companies to cobble together multiple tools like search engines, caches, and dashboards. The result? Slow responses, fragile data pipelines, and insights that are already outdated when they arrive.

SereneDB takes a different approach by combining powerful search capabilities with modern OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) execution in a single system. Everything runs under the familiar PostgreSQL interface, making it accessible to developers who already know SQL. The database handles real-time data ingestion with proper updates and deletes, delivering complex analytical results in milliseconds.

This unified approach means both humans and AI agents can ask sophisticated questions about the most current data available. For businesses, it translates to fewer tools, lower costs, and reduced operational complexity.

The company, founded in 2025 by Alexander Malandin, Andrey Abramov, and Valery Mironov, is committed to open-source development. Co-founder Andrey Abramov notes that the team has evolved from a personal project started in 2014, with a consistent focus on making true real-time analytics possible.

As AI becomes integral to software products, SereneDB's infrastructure could provide the foundation for a new generation of data-driven applications.
